Bringing The Tithe
“Then all Judah brought the tithe of the grain and the new wine and the oil to the storehouse.” Nehemiah 13:12 NKJV
I have taught several times that tithing is not a commandment in the New Testament and that there is no curse for those who do not tithe, because Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (Galatians 3:13).
Having said that, let me add that there’s nothing wrong with choosing to give God a certain percentage of your income, whether daily, monthly, or annually. After all Joseph made it a law for the Egyptians to give Pharaoh a fifth, that is 20% of their income. I chose to give God 20% of my revenues (not profit) too. If we pay taxes to the government periodically, it shouldn’t be a big deal to give to God specific sums or percentages of whatever we earn.
We are blessed every time that we give to God. Malachi 3:10-12 says, “‘Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,’ says the Lord of hosts, ‘If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it. ‘And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, so that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,’ says the Lord of hosts; ‘and all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a delightful land,’ says the Lord of hosts.'”
